Oval Face Shape?

What is Oval Face Shape?

The oval face shape is considered (in hairstyling textbooks, anyway) to be “ideal.” The reason is that oval face shapes are well-balanced, not overly sharp or angular, and not overly rounded or full.
The oval face shape is widest at the cheekbones, but not by much. It narrows a tiny bit at the jaw line and at the forehead. The width of the forehead and the width of the jawline (corner to corner) are nearly equal.
Because the oval face shape is so well-balanced, it tends to look proportionate and nice with pretty much any hairstyle or length. Long or short, curly or straight, bangs or no bangs… there’s really not much you can do with the hair that will make the face shape itself look unbalanced.
People with an oval face really can play with different styles. There’s not much that won’t look good with their face… unless it’s something that’s just plain out of style.

HAIRSTYLES TO TRY

Any shape and style can be worn, whether it’s short, long, layered or bobbed.
The only thing to consider with an oval face shape is what part of your face you want to accentuate. This is where you can get creative with bangs or how you style your hair everyday.

HAIRSTYLES TO AVOID

The main thing to consider is to not choose hairstyles that hang in your face or eyes.
Or hairstyles that just cover over your beautiful face shape..

Makeup Tips for Oval Face Shape

EYES
Use a bronze shadow all over your eyelid and mark out your socket line with a softly smudged brown pencil.
A pearly pink eye shadow applied in the area above your socket line will create a delicate look.
Using a blue kohl pencil along the edge of your eyes (above the lash line) will emphasize the size of your
 eyes.
A fine line of softly smudged pencil under your lashes will enhance your eye color.
CHEEKBONES
To enhance your face shape, blend blusher on your cheeks and almost over to your hair line.
LIPS
A rich, deep pink lipstick color applied entirely over your lips will enhance any curves. For more tips on shaping your lips, see our beauty article, Makeup Tricks: Shaping Your Lips.
To see the difference lipstick can make to your face shape visit the extras section in our Virtual Hairstyle and try out our selection of lipsticks.
When it comes to makeup, the number one rule is that you should always be comfortable. Use these tips and makeup color suggestions as a guide for creating your own look and remember that all face proportions are different and the aim is to balance your own individual features within your face shape.

Oblong Face Shape ?

The oblong face shape is rectangular, and has similar qualities as the square face shape except that it’s longer. It tends to be angular, but not always. Oblong faces are pretty straight, with the cheekbones not any or much wider than the forehead and jaw line.
What to avoid: center parts, no-bangs or slicked-back styles, chin-length styles with no texture or fullness, and styles that add volume on top but not at the sides. The best styles for this face are full, textured styles- think curl or wave, and layers. Short and medium length styles work well on this face, like ‘wedge’ cuts and graduated bobs that are shorter than the jaw line. Shoulder length cuts with layers that kick out or have texture are flattering, as are side parts and blunt cut bangs.

HAIRSTYLES TO TRY
Styles that are short to medium in length with longer top layers without height are best suited such as wedge and graduated bob cuts .
Chin and shoulder length looks that turn under or kick out also work very well to add width.
Straight across bangs with side parts work best.
Layered styles in medium and long lengths that add body in with wavy and curly textures are great for softening the straight long lines of oblong face shapes.
HAIRSTYLES TO AVOID
Hairstyles that add height at the crown or on top will only lengthen your face.
MIDDLE PARTS
The absence of bangs.
Wispy chin length styles that have no body or that don’t add width through the sides should also be avoided.
Makeup Tips for Oblong Face Shape
An oblong or rectangular face shape is longer than it is wide, and is relatively the same width across the forehead, cheekbones and jawline. For an oblong face, use makeup to accentuate your cheekbones and bring out the middle third of the face.
CONTOURING AN OBLONG FACE
With makeup, you can contour an oblong face to make it appear more equally proportioned. Start by applying foundation and powder all over the face. A well-powdered face is essential for contouring.
SHADE AND SHORTEN
Your objective with makeup on an oblong face is to create the appearance of the ideal oval, making your face appear both shorter and broader. Use a darker pressed powder (or a matte bronzer) along the hairline at the top of the forehead, blending it downward. Also add the same bronzer to just the bottom of the chin. This will help the face appear slightly shorter.
CONTOUR WITH BRONZER
Next, you want to focus on the cheekbones to make the face appear broader. Apply bronzer, just under the cheekbones in the hollow, and then blend up and out toward the hairline.
“For an oblong face, contour the sides of the jaw, temples and hairline with bronzer to minimize the prominent forehead,” .
HIGHLIGHT YOUR CHEEKS
To really put the focus on the cheeks, you need to apply blush just to the apples, using a fluffy brush in a circular motion. Then, apply a light highlighter or illuminating powder to the very highest points of the cheek to finish widening the appearance of the face.
PLAY UP YOUR EYES
By putting the emphasis on your beautiful features, you can take away from an irregular, oblong face shape , bold eyeshadow colors and dramatic lashes. “Extending the eyebrows outward toward your temples also will soften the angular features,” says Lauren.

Square Shape face

What is Square Face Shape?

The square face and round face are the two most common face shapes. This face does not narrow much from the cheekbone to the forehead, nor from the cheekbone to the jaw line. A square face may also look angular- the jawline may appear sharply-angled at the corners, and even the forehead may be squared off.

ROUND SHAPE FACE

round shape face

What is Round Face Shape?

Round face shapes are exactly as they sound- the widest point is across the cheekbones, narrowing some at the forehead and jaw line. This face shape is not angular at all, and is wider than the typical oval or oblong face.
When working with a round face shape, you may want to avoid any hairstyle that’s ear-length. (This length gives a wider appearance.) Also, avoid blunt-cut straight bangs and styles that add volume or curl to the sides without any up on top. The most balanced and flattering styles on a round face are those that add fullness at the crown or top of the head, as well as longer styles with little width. Wispy bangs or side-swept bangs are best, and very short styles can work as well. (Just not ear-length.)

HAIRSTYLES TO TRY

Hairstyles with height and fullness at the crown will give the illusion of a narrower face shape, particularly those short in length.
Longer hairstyles or ones that are kept close to the cheeks with no width will look better.
Middle parts  are great for creating the illusion of narrow length.
No bangs are the ideal as the focus point becomes the bridge of the nose, creating a more oval shape.
If finges are used they should be swept across, or in the case of solid bangs, only where there is substantial height on the top.
Short hairstyles  are great and do not suffocate small round faces.

HAIRSTYLES TO AVOID

Adding volume to the sides of the hair is a no-no for women with round faces.
Hairstyles that add volume through the sides such as chin length bob cuts, straight or kicking out in design.
Side parts and heavy straight across fing create a wider shorter shape and therefore should be avoided at all costs on hairstyles without any height.
